Inspirational Stories and Quotable Quotes > I'm Free

I'm Free
By: Anne Lindgren Davison (Please see note below)

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me
I took his hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that place at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.
Ah yes, these things I too, will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all to brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me
God wanted me now, He set me free.

Special Note:
We have found that more than one person claims to be the author.
-- Shannon Lee Moseley
-- Linda Jo Jackson
-- Angel Magoo has been attached it. That “proof” came off of a memorial service bulletin for Sgt S W Moline USMC
-- “Kelly K” is attached to the poem.
-- It has even been titled “The Final Flight.”
-- Besides the poem is used in countless memorials for hundreds or more people without any recognition to the author.
-- Anne Lindgren Davison - Received an email from Ms. Davison with the following: "My name is Anne Lindgren Davison and I am the author of this poem. I wrote this poem June 22, 1974 and obtained a certificate of registration from the Library of Congress on May 9, 1994. The registration number is TX-3-837-377. This is public information and can be found on the Unites States Copyright Office web page." We followed up with the United States Copyright web site and did indeed find this information. Therefore, we feel that Ms. Davison is the true author of this poem.
Of course we are not talking of the song written by Pete Townshend and performed by The Who on the album Tommy. Or the song "I'm Free" sung by the Rolling Stones and written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
