Toradol, About, Accessmednet.com:"Toradol is a powerful non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) usually prescribed after surgical procedures. This prescription drug poses a risk of severe side effects, which increases with the duration of use. Toradol is generally prescribed for no more than 5 days at any one time. Individuals taking it are advised to be aware of the severity of possible side effects, and closely follow the recommended directions for use. Ongoing use for chronic problems is potentially very dangerous, possibly life threatening. This treatment is non-narcotic, and it has not been found to be either physically or mentally addictive in patients. It may, however, occasionally be mixed with a narcotic analgesic for greater efficacy. This medication should not be mixed with any over the counter pain medication, or any treatment not approved as safe by your doctor."

Taking Toradol (Ketorolac) longer than recommended could lead to serious reaction (case): Find Law: "Janis Payne was employed as a registered nurse by Galen Hospital when she injured her back. Dr. Green, a physician not associated with the hospital, treated Payne and diagnosed her as having a lumbar strain. When her back pain began to interfere with her ability to work, Green prescribed Toradol, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that had been on the market for less than five months. The drug's package insert warned that it was not to be used for chronic pain and was only to be used for "a limited duration."Payne filled her prescription for Toradol at the hospital pharmacy. The pharmacy is not open to the public, nor is it available to hospital employees in general; it dispenses drugs only to hospital patients and employees requiring medication for on-the-job injuries. As an employee injured on the job, Payne received her medication free of charge. Payne took Toradol for four and one-half months. Because of this prolonged use, she suffered a severe reaction. She developed vasculitis, breathing problems, cataracts, peripheral-nerve damage, joint damage, and severe depression. She is totally and permanently disabled and will be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life."

Contact your doctor immediately if you suspect a problem. This drug should be used with caution if you have kidney or liver disease. It may cause liver inflammation or kidney problems in some people. Toradol is not recommended for long-term use, since side effects increase over time. This medication should be taken for no more than 5 days. If you are an older adult, use this drug cautiously. Ketorolac (Systemic), Medlineplus:"Ketorolac ( kee-toe-ROLE-ak) is used to relieve moderately severe pain, usually pain that occurs after an operation or other painful procedure. It belongs to the group of medicines called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Ketorolac is not a narcotic and is not habit-forming. It will not cause physical or mental dependence, as narcotics can. However, ketorolac is sometimes used together with a narcotic to provide better pain relief than either medicine used alone. Ketorolac has side effects that can be very dangerous. The risk of having a serious side effect increases with the dose of ketorolac and with the length of treatment. Therefore, ketorolac should not be used for more than 5 days. Before using this medicine, you should discuss with your doctor the good that this medicine can do as well as the risks of using it."

The studies were double-blind, single- and multiple-dose, parallel trial designs in patients with moderate to severe pain at baseline. TORADOLIV/IM was compared as follows: IM to meperidine or morphine administered intramuscularly and IV to morphine administered either directly IV or through a PCA (Patient-Controlled Analgesia) pump.Short-Term Use (up to 5 days) Studies: In the comparisons of intramuscular administration during the first hour, the onset of analgesic action was similar for TORADOL and the narcotics, but the duration of analgesia was longer with TORADOL than with the opioid comparators meperidine or morphine. In a multidose, postoperative (general surgery) double-blind trial of TORADOLIM 30 mg versus morphine 6 and 12 mg IM, each drug given on an as needed basis for up to 5 days, the overall analgesic effect of TORADOLIM 30 mg was between that of morphine 6 and 12 mg."

Nurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."
