Antibioticos (Italian Journal):"Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic penicillin. It is an antibacterial agent with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against Gram-positive organisms and many Gram-negative pathogens."

Once-Daily Amoxicillin for Streptococcal Pharyngitis: Find articles: "At subsequent follow-up visits, 13 (16 percent) of the 79 patients in the amoxicillin group and 15 (21 percent) of the 73 patients in the penicillin group had positive throat cultures. In nine patients receiving amoxicillin and seven patients receiving penicillin, the organism was a a different strain of group A beta-hemolytic streptococci, and infection in these patients was considered a "new acquisition." The remaining four patients in the amoxicillin group and the remaining eight patients in the penicillin group were considered to have treatment failure because the organism was the same as that found initially. The authors conclude that once-daily amoxicillin in a dosage of 750 mg is as effective in the treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis as penicillin V in a dosage of 250 mg three times daily. An advantage of amoxicillin is that its absorption is not affected by food intake (unlike penicillin) and its spectrum of activity is narrower than that of the antimicrobials currently approved for once-daily administration in the treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis."

Q&A about Amoxicillin: Infomed: "Amoxycillin is still a versatile and relatively well tolerated antibiotic. Compared to penicillin it is advantageous because of its broader range. When used alone, amoxycillin is better tolerated than co-trimoxazole. In combination with clavulanic acid (Augmentin) however, it causes more adverse effects. The combination is not effective against all ß-lactamase producing bacteria (e.g. Enterobacter), causes many side-effects (diarrhea), and is very expensive. According to some studies the drug can also be administered every 12 hours (500-1000 mg/dose). The duration of the treatment must be established individually (usually longer for men). **Only when risk of endocarditis is high: seven doses after the intervention.According to provisional studies, amoxycillin in high doses (minimum 2 g/day for two weeks in combinbation with e.g. omeprazole) is suitable for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori (prevention of ulcer recurrence). Each `500' Tablet contains 500 mg amoxicillin and 125 mg potassium clavulanate. Each ``875'' tablet contains: 875 mg amoxicillin, 125 mg potassium clavulanate Each `125' Chewable Tablet contains 125 mg amoxicillin and 31.25 mg potassium clavulanate. Each 200 Chewable Tablet contains 200 mg amoxicillin and 28.5 mg potassium clavulanate. Each `250' Chewable Tablet contains 250 mg amoxicillin and 62.5 mg potassium clavulanate. Each 400 Chewable Tablet contains 400 mg amoxicillin and 57 mg potassium clavulanate. Each 5 mL of the `125' Powder for Oral Suspension contains 125 mg amoxicillin and 31.25 mg potassium clavulanate. Each 5 mL of the 200 Powder for Oral Suspension contains 200 mg amoxicillin and 28.5 mg potassium clavulanate. Each 5 mL of the `250' Powder for Oral Suspension contains 250 mg amoxicillin and 62.5 mg potassium clavulanate. Each 5 mL of the 400 Powder or the 400 Powder for Oral Suspension contains 400 mg amoxicillin and 57 mg potassium clavulanate.Action/Kinetics: For details, see amoxicillin. Potassium clavulanate inactivates lactamase enzymes, which are responsible for resistance to penicillins. Effective against microorganisms that have manifested resistance to amoxicillin. For potassium clavulanate: Peak serum levels: 1-2 hr. t1/2: 1 hr."

Effectiveness of Amoxicillin : Healthfacts: "Inexpensive antibiotics such as amoxicillin are just as effective in treating acute bacterial sinusitis as the newer, expensive antibiotics. In most cases, however, symptoms of acute bacterial sinusitis will go away without any treatment. These are some of the conclusions from a report issued early this year from the U.S. Agency for Health Care Policy and Research. It is the latest in a series intended to search the published medical literature to find evidence to answer basic questions about a common treatment: Does it work? If so, for whom? Sinusitis is one of the most common infections in the U.S., accounting for over $200 million spent on prescription drugs in 1992 alone and another $2 billion for over-the-counter drugs. The condition, which in most cases involves inflammation of the sinuses and nasal passages, has a variety of causes. According to the report, this includes infectious agents (bacteria, viruses, and fungi), allergic conditions (allergic rhinitis), anatomic abnormalities, systemic disease (endocrine, metabolic, genetic), trauma, and noxious chemicals. If sinusitis is not caused by bacteria, antibiotics are useless."

Allergic reaction to Amoxicillin : Medicine Net: "Typically, the symptoms of an allergic reaction are those of hives (welts) of the skin, wheezing, sudden acceleration of heart rate, etc. However, many individuals may develop side effects (upset stomach, rashes, etc) which are not allergic but rather more a bother. I believe that your child is dealing with the second scenario. Since the medication was taken orally, it may not even be related to the antibiotic itself but rather to the vehicle the medication is mixed with (ie the flavors, coloring, etc.) Should her situation change she should be seen by her doctor, otherwise it is usually OK to continue with her medication.Amoxicillin is an antibiotic of the penicillin type. It is effective against different bacterias such as H. influenzae, N. gonorrhoeae, E. coli, Pneumococci, Streptococci, and certain strains of Staphylococci. Chemically, it is closely related to penicillin and ampic "

Bacterical sensitivity of Amoxicillin (list information): Antibiotics: "Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic penicillin. It is an antibacterial agent with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against Gram-positive organisms and many Gram-negative pathogens. Physical characteristics: a white or almost white crystalline powder, practically, odourless when pure and has a bitter taste. High humidity and high temperature adversely affect stability. The pH. is 3,5 to 6 (0,2 % solution in water). It is sparingly soluble in water and practically insoluble in: ethanol (96%), chloroform, ether and fixed oils. It dissolves in dilute solutions of acids and of alkali hydroxides. Amoxicillin has a convenient three times daily dosage schedule. It is rapidly absorbed from the stomach and achieves consistently high blood levels. It is considerated to be bactericidal."

Infomed Drug Guide, Amoxycillin:"Amoxycillin hinders the cell wall synthesis of sensitive bacteria and is bactericidal. It is active against all penicillin-sensitive bacteria: streptococci and most strains of pneumococci, gonococci, and meningococci are sensitive. Bacteria that produce ß-lactamase (e.g. most of the staphylococci) are resistant. Amoxycillin is also active against strains of haemophilus influenza that do not produce ß-lactamase, against branhamella catarrhalis, and partially against E. coli, Proteus mirabilis and salmonella. In combination with the ß-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acid it is effective against ß-lactamase producing staphylococci, h. influenza, and bacteroides fragilis."

Nurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."
